How much can you actually fit in a mini backpack?

Think phone, purse or wallet, keys, sunglasses, lip balm and a small water bottle. The Bantry XS, our smallest backpack, is built for exactly that list and no more. If you also need a book, a compact camera or a packable jacket, step up to one of the small sizes rather than trying to make the XS stretch.

What is the difference between the Bantry XS and a small backpack?

The XS is the genuinely tiny option, our smallest backpack, made for essentials only. The small sizes in the Bantry, Canfield and Finchley styles are a clear step up in capacity while still reading as compact on the back. If you are between the two, the deciding factor is usually whether you carry a water bottle every day.

Are mini backpacks comfortable to wear all day?

More comfortable than a crossbody once you pass a certain weight, because two straps split the load rather than hanging it from one shoulder. Ours are lightweight before you fill them, which matters on a festival day or a long walk. The trade-off is access: you have to take a backpack off to get into it, where a crossbody stays to hand.

Are ROKA London mini backpacks waterproof?

They are weather-resistant rather than waterproof. The Bantry XS is Taslon, and the wider range uses recycled nylon and recycled canvas, all of which shed light rain rather than absorbing it. That covers a shower on the walk to the station or a drizzle at a festival, but they are not designed for sustained heavy rain.

Who are mini backpacks best suited to?

Anyone who wants hands free without carrying a day's worth of kit: festival and gig days, travel where a bigger bag is already checked in, a city afternoon, or as a first proper bag for an older child or teenager. They also work well as a second bag alongside a duffle or a suitcase for the essentials you keep on you.

Mini Backpacks for the Days You Carry Less

There are days when a full size rucksack is overkill: a festival, a gallery, a long walk with the dog, a city break where the hotel already has your suitcase. A mini backpack carries the essentials, keeps both hands free and spreads what weight there is across both shoulders instead of digging into one.

The Bantry XS is our smallest backpack, made from lightweight Taslon and weather-resistant, so a shower on the way to the station is not a problem. If you want a little more room for a book, a water bottle or a compact camera, the small sizes in our Bantry, Canfield and Finchley styles sit just above it.

Because a mini rucksack is mostly on show, colour matters more than usual here. The range runs from Midnight, Teal and Arctic through to Corn, Chilli and Very Berry, so it can be the quiet part of an outfit or the loud one.
